Late summer and fall is a fabulous time. There are cons (as in Conventions) happening, the weather is cooling down and JapanFest Atlanta is nigh. This festival is great fun and one that our family looks forward to every year for different reasons. There really is something for every member of your family, regardless of your knowledge or experience with Japanese culture. JapanFest is September 15 and 16 at Infinite Energy Arena in Norcross. To win this family 4-pack of tickets just leave a comment in the blog post and we’ll randomly pick the winner on September 11 at 9PM.
The boys, aged 6 and 8, enjoy JapanFest because of a couple things. First off they love the variety of games. There are some classic Japanese festival games that also resonate with Americans. You can fish for (fake) fish, throw rings on bottles and other seemingly impossible, but fun games. Actually, our youngest did get one of those rings on a bottle at last year’s JapanFest. Apparently the key to winning is to be a 5 year-old cute kid who can muddle through some basic Japanese phrases.
The kids also enjoy the snacks and that’s one that we can firmly get behind also. If you like some Japanese snacks this is where you can get the real deal. They have lots of varieties of Pocky’s (not just chocolate), plus chips of all exotic manner and much more. If J-Pop, J-Rock, manga, anime or Japanese fashion is your scene they’ve also got dozen of vendors with things that you’ll only find there.
My wife enjoys JapanFest too. She and I enjoy it because the kids have so much fun and get to experience new things. That and the food court at JapanFest is a Japanese foodies’ dream come true. They have the best, most authentic Japanese food this side of the Pacific. There are pictures of all the meals to give you a better idea of what they are and if you enjoy Asian food you won’t be disappointed with any of the choices. You’ll spend an hour in the food court at least wondering through the vendors and deciding what to eat. HINT: Eat an hour before lunch or an hour after lunch to avoid a 20 minute line.
The entertainment is also top notch. Have you been to EPCOT Center in Orlando? Did you see the drummers at the Japanese Pavilion? Matsuriza Taiko perform there year round, but make the trip to JapanFest for an extended show. This is large drumming on a scale that you’ve most likely never seen before. There are also traditional Japanese arts, Shimasen performances and much more. JapanFest is September 15 and 16 at Infinite Energy Center in Duluth.
