At some point in the life of every kid 10 years old and younger they’ve been a ninja. Our 8 year old is a not-so-closet ninja and a huge fan of all things Ninjago. With The Ultimate LEGO NINJAGO Experience open for the weekend of March 31 at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta it allows kids (and nimble adults) the chance to duck and weave like a ninja, test their reflexes, control their nerves and pose for pictures with Lloyd.
There’s a character meet and greet at 11PM, 2PM and 5PM, the LEGO NINJAGO Miniland Takeover and Scavenger Hunt throughout the weekend win passed to LDC and many more events.
A laser obstacle course can be challenging for kids. First off you’ve got the fact that you’re being scored on how many lasers that you make contact with. The fewer that you break, the higher your score, however, if you’re clumsy then the system will give you a low ninja score and your odds on going to ninja master elementary school are low.
The second part that’s challenging is that kids have been taught that lasers are bad, which is true. But in this case they’re not dangerous; they’ll just lower your score. We had to reinforce this point to both children many times before they stepped foot into the gauntlet. No surprisingly our older son is closer to a ninja while the 6 year old has more in common with a bull in a china shop, which hopefully has Jackie Chan working behind the counter.
After that they tested their reflexes with a speed touch event that let brother compete against brother. One chose to be blue, while the other one chose yellow. They touched one of their respective color pads on the wall as it lit up and surprisingly, our younger son outscored his brother. It wasn’t even close. I told the older one that I was helping, just to soothe over his ego.
They got a photo with Lloyd and then explored the rest of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta. Spoiler alert: they love this place. From looking at the scale LEGO model of Atlanta, Stone Mountain, the Kind and Queen building and more they had to be metaphorically dragged out of that room.
But I knew that they wanted to do LEGO Kingdom Quest-and I was right. We did that three times as their skills got better and better, thus minimizing my thought that they were not ninjas.
It was also our first time seeing LEGOLAND Discover Center Atlanta since they renovated the play area and were quite impressed. It’s now Pirate Adventure Island and the renovation allows for themed play, also has some water elements in a separate play area, but still has the climbing aspects that wear the kids out.
Bottom line: LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta needs to be on your must-see list if you have kids who are 10 and under.
