Few things merit the definition of ‘classic’ as much as A Charlie Brown Christmas. Since its initial broadcast in 1965 the show has spawned memes, products like A Charlie Brown Christmas Tree and many people consider it to the true start of the holiday season. This year there’s a new deluxe collector’s edition of the classic children’s book, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
New printing can be a buzz word or a crass marketing ploy if there isn’t something to back it up. And the first thing you’ll notice about this new edition of A Charlie Brown Christmas is its size. This is a big book that looks like the kind that your kids will pass down to their kids. The illustrations are large, hallmark prints of various scenes from the classic television program.
There’s Lucy giving Charlie Brown psychiatric help for .05. The dancing Snoopy scene is in there of course, as is the group dance where they’re practicing for the first scene in the play. There are also several shots of the tree. That Charlie Brown Christmas Tree that people reference for anything that is loved, but might not look like much.
The exterior of the book is covered fabric. This brings a classy, timeless feel that will immediately place in your mind, as it should be, that this is a book that will be in your family library for generations. As an example, we still have our Charlie Brown Christmas from when we were 9 years old. I showed it to our children and they liked this new deluxe collector’s edition better.
The interior covers have sheet music printed on them with Jingle Bells in the front and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing on the back.
The deluxe A Charlie Brown Christmas is a little too long to be a good night book that you’ll read to them more than once. However, it’s a great good night book if you only plan on reading it once. That’s the way that our 8 year old likes the book. We read it to him once and then he takes the book to re-read parts of it and look at the pictures again.
This is classic stuff that ages 4 and up will be enamored over from the moment they lay eyes on it. It’s a Christmas book, but it’s one that that will stay in the children’s library year round if you want it to.
If you need a reminder as to why A Charlie Brown Christmas is so magical it’s on television this season too.
