Here’s an Amazon Prime Boxtume for the heart of a cosplayer

This is a sponsored post; all thoughts are our own. Halloween is coming up and you want to be something clever, unique or that will surprise your friends and keep them guessing? The answer to your quest is as close as the Amazon Smile boxes you’ve been inadvertently collecting in the other room. As an additional bonus to children who are learning math, it’s also a chance to practice prime numbers. Make an Amazon Prime Guy (or Gal) boxtume costume that uses minimal resources, almost all of which are already in your house.

First off, this is a simple costume to make. Any adult will be able to make their own Amazon Prime boxtume and even children will be able to assist with the majority of its production.

Here are all of the supplies you’ll need to make your own Amazon Prime Costume

Boxes. Enough boxes to cover as much of you as you want to be ‘in costume’.

  • Paint. Jungle or Amazon colored paint, like green, black, brown, yellow and white.
  • A pen to highlight or help you paint the Amazonian scene.
  • Tape, just in case you need it to patch together some of the boxes.
  • A box cutter. This should only be used by adults to help trim or modify the boxes as needed.

How to make your own Amazon Prime Boxtume

  1. Assuming that you have a box that allows part of you or your torso to fit into it cut off the opening folds.
  2. From here, simply mark the circles where the arms and head will go.
  3. Using the box cutter, carefully cut out the circles.
  4. Use tape to secure the loose box folds on the inside of the neck hole. This will make the costume more comfortable, as well as more durable, which will allow you to go to more parties.
  5. Start painting! You’re painting an Amazonian theme with prime numbers all over the box. I would suggest painting the prime numbers first, so that they have a place that’s front and center to the costume.

The Amazonian aspect of the costume is simple to paint. All you’re doing is painting a tree (or several trees) with darker colored greens and more colorful animals that you might otherwise be used to. Put in a lime green snake, a toucan with a big red beak or brightly colored lizard. This is a costume, not something that’s going to hand in a museum wall. That, plus the fact that there are multiple prime numbers on the costume should clue in the more astute attendees at your party.

If you’re using smaller boxes that costume will still work; you’ll just have to cut the small boxes in one corner and then tape two of them together for the torso portions. Smaller boxes will also work on your arms or on your head, as we demonstrated in the video.

That’s it. Our Amazon Prime costume took us two hours to complete. Depending on your painting skill level or the size of your boxes it’ll take you slightly less or more time. We let our kids get in on the action and they helped paint some of the background scenes, in addition to quizzing them which numbers are prime numbers.

For smaller boxes

If you’re using multiple smaller boxes then you’ll do the same things for the arms and legs. However, you’ll just tape smaller boxes to smaller boxes, which will give the costume a more ‘robot’ illusion.  For the larger areas, like your torso you’ll need bigger boxes or you’ll need to cut two boxes in half and tape them together.

So, what are you doing with your excess Amazon Smile boxes at home?
