Unicorn Princesses is 7-10 year old, girl reading fun

Our seven year old ran into the office looking for something to read. He quickly picked up Unicorn Princesses Sunbeam’s Shine and asked me why I was reading it. From the bright yellow unicorn on the cover to the glitter in its hair and collar it’s obvious that this series is not intended for boys. “Eewww, I don’t want to read that”, he said, “but Susie would probably love to read it”. She’s his typical friend at school that loves unicorns, horses and more unicorns. In other words, The Unicorn Princesses book series by Emily Bliss on Bloomsbury Children’s Books are her jam.

Sunbeam’s Shine starts out with Sunbeam in a jam of a different kind.  Her magic yellow sapphire is missing, well actually the resident wizard, who is also a lizard, has cast a spell incorrectly that separates it from Sunbeam. Fearing that the unicorn princesses will be upset with him, the lizard-wizard finds a book that can reverse spells that go south. All he needs to do is find a human girl that believes in unicorns and transport her to the Rainbow Realm.

Then once there she needs to find the missing gemstone, so that Princess Sunbeam can have her powers again and return it to her. Cressida Jenkins is just that type of human girl. She’s on a walk with her family in the woods when she finds a strange key. Initially it’s one color, the next morning it’s a different color and she starts to think that someone may be looking for it so she returns to the forest to return it.

She sees Sunbeam in the forest who has been trapped there ever since Ernest, the wizard-lizard’s spell didn’t go as planned. Sunbeam is surprised that a human can see her, but is also thankful because that means Cressida can possibly find the stone and return her powers to her. From here all flying unicorns head to the Rainbow Realm where the villainy and erstwhile mean sand dunes, talking cacti and other creatures can assist human girls along their quest.

Girls who are in first through third grades will love these books. Each chapter is around 12 pages long and there are nine chapters with illustrations on approximately every third page. This is an early chapter book that retails for $15.99 for a physical copy. However, shop around and you’ll pick it up for the same price as its eBook price, which is $4.99.

If your young girl reader is a fan then get ready for the sequels. Flash’s Dash is out and revolves around the Thunder Dash. It’s a horse race that for the first time ever is allowing human girls to participate. Princesses unite. The first two books of the Unicorn Princesses series are in stores now.
