Justice League: Battle For Metropolis just opened at Six Flags Over Georgia. It’s a 4D interactive attraction that takes riders through Metropolis as its under siege from a litany of villains in the DC Universe. The ride was names one of the Top Ten New Amusement Park Attractions by USA Today and was awarded the Brass Ring for “Best New Product In The World” by international Association of Amusement Parks. That’s a whole bunch of accolades, but is Justice League: Battle For Metropolis a fun ride for the family?
Oh yes, Justice League: Battle For Metropolis is a hoot for ages 5 and up. I was concerned that our 5 year old wouldn’t like it-or be too scared to go on it, but he really enjoyed the ride. This is a slow moving ride where riders shoot various bad guys and villains with the laser guns that are in front of them once they’re seated.
It’s a ride that really moves. That sounds obvious, but you’re wearing 3D glasses and aspects of the battle scenes are in 3D. Combine that with the fact that you’re sometimes moving and other times interacting with physical animatronics figures; you’ve got a ride that is approachable for young audiences and challenging for older ones.
Parts of the ride has the vehicle tilting up on one side, rocking back and forth, going backwards and even doing a loop. This is a virtual loop. However, the affect of the moving vehicle in tandem with the loop in the road that’s being projected on the screen really is effective. That particular effect is lots of fun also because it takes places during a chase with the members of the Justice League chasing Lex Luthor and his robots across Metropolis.
The ride is just over 9 minutes, which does not include a brief preshow as you wait for to board the vehicles. In the pre show you see The Joker and Lex Luthor plotting together to capture all of the members of the Justice League. Each vehicle seats 6 people and riders under 46’ will have to sit in the middle or far right seats. For complete ride information on Justice League: Battle For Metropolis please check their website.
As a parent to a young child I was concerned that he’d be scared of any number of things. In reality, the pre show and queue to get on the ride is when he was the most apprehensive. Once he was on the ride and started firing his laser at target he was all screams and laughter. Older kids will realize the competitive elements of the ride and try to get as high a score as possible.
Bottom line, Justice League: Battle For Metropolis is a Four-Star experience of an amusement park ride for ages 5 and up. The queue moves rather quickly and for a 9 minute ride the time-spent-in-line vs. total time on ride equation is very reasonable. On the day that we were there the longest we saw the line was 20 minutes, although we heard that it can be longer on peak times like weekends or holidays.
