Cars 3: Driven to Win review and giveaway

Have you seen Cars 3 yet? If so then you know there are a couple, gentle curves to the story of Lightning McQueen, Radiator Springs and the handful of new cars that are introduced to audiences. The film is also solidly entertaining and the very rare G-rated movie that the whole family can enjoy. Cars 3: Driven to Win is the video game companion piece for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch™ and Wii U™ that takes the plot from the movie and extends it to your game console.

Having said that, Cars 3: Driven to Win is all racing game play, there are not sub plots about retiring cars or getting old, it’s just pedal to the metal. Designed by Avalanche Software the game is a semi-spoiler effort to the Disney Pixar film, if you haven’t seen it. Players can build up to the point to where they play one of 20 customizable cars like Luigi, Cruz Ramirez, new comer Jackson Storm in one of 13 race environments. Some of these places are familiar like Radiator Springs, but most of them are new and have a varied landscape, like snow, sand or the country.

We played the game with a 5 and 7 year old and not surprisingly, the later took to the game like a duck to water. He was going through places I didn’t know counted as roads, firing his weapons much quicker than I and doing it all with much more panache. That’s where the road diverges between Cars 3 and Cars 3: Driven to Win. The video game is much more battle driven than the film. Whereas the film is competition on the race track, the video game is full on finding floating diamonds that allow your car to shoot, plus lots of racing.

It’s a more amped up version of a Wii game, but a more family friendly version of any number of first person shooter game. The technical rating for Cars 3: Driven to Win is 10+ for cartoon violence. However, the language is what you’d hear in the G-rated film, as is the violence. We had no issues with either of our children playing the game, but you be the judge for yourself.

We’re giving away a digital copy of Cars 3: Driven to Win on the format of your choice. Ages 7 and up will absolutely love it and appreciate the fact that they get to add rocket launchers and assorted weaponry to their vehicles.
