Star Wars, Poster-A-Page: Creatures, Ships and Droids

Our kids are in the Star Wars sweet spot. (Note: I may use that phrase for the next 20 years) No, really, they both are in love with the idea and the fantasy that these classic characters bring alive. Star Wars, Creatures, Ships & Droids, a poster-a-page book is as simple, direct and enjoyable as a book can be to a kid who is between 6 and 11.

That age seems to be the prime era for kids decorating their rooms in the thing that interests them the most. We knew that our oldest was growing up when he took down his matching animal sticker activities and put up some pages from his Star Wars coloring book. Consequently, he took those pages down to give to a girl in his class that also likes Star Wars and were replaced by some of the posters from this book.

“Daddy, she would really like this book”, he said after the posters were up on his wall for a couple days. Star Wars, Creatures Ships & Droids has seven large posters that can be easily torn from the book and put up the wall. The remaining pages in the book are standard size and feature various creatures, ships or droids from any of the seven films.

Older fans will get a kick from the format of these pages as they’re identical to the way that the Topps Trading Cards were laid out back in the day. There is a semi-solid color background with a large picture or digital drawing of something that you’ll recognize. The classic Star Wars logo is emblazoned on the upper left hand corner just like the old trading cards too.

Some of the things that are featured are those that only the true mega fan will know. What’s the name of Jabba’s pet monster? I had forgotten that he even had a monster, but once I saw the image I remembered it, but had not idea as to its name. Rancor is its name, in case you’re keeping score at home. On the back of each page there is a variety of information about each one. For example, Rancor has very poor vision, moves slowly; is from the same planet at Darth Maul (Dathomir) and has a human keeper named Malakili.

Young fans can rip out these individual pages or keep them in the book for easier reference. Star Wars, Creatures, Ships & Droids, a Poster-A-Page  book retails for $12.95 and has approximately 80 single page posters and seven fold out posters. Our 5 year old liked his posters too, but the book really resonated with his older brother who is able to read the words on the posters. Star Wars fans 6 and up will be over the third Endor moon when they get their hands on this book.
