Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, comic book, adventure time. Star, mewni, marco diaz, all age comic book

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, #1 review

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is a force in her own right to be reckoned with. She’s the star of one of the coolest, most creative shows that’s on the air on Disney XD now. This is a very funny show that would be as comfortable, if not more so, on Cartoon Network as it is on its current home.  The comic book version of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil #1 is out and what young girls who read Spongebob Comics or Adventure Time are looking for.

It has all of the elements that make those all age comic books great, but has more pink, unicorns and overall kawaii. Star Butterfly is a princess from another dimension who is living on Earth as an exchange student. She’s living with Marco Diaz and his family as she goes to school and protects some of her artifacts from her home world, Mewni. Anyone from Mewni, as well as, she and Marco can travel across dimensions using her magic wand.

In the comic book versions, it’s impossible to not see the similarities between Star Vs. The Forces of Evil and Adventure Time.  The major difference is that Star is slightly less manic and busy, targets girls more than boys and is aimed at a slightly younger audience. Slightly younger audience means that while Adventure Time is OK for 9 and up, Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is going to be OK for ages 7 and up.

That rating is only for the vocabulary in the comic book. The drawings and such are great for ages 7 and up filled with silly visuals like a talking floating unicorn head in an air bubble (because they’re underwater), a dolphin attorney and anything weird that a 7 year old might think of as funny. Some of the language might be too much for kids younger than that age though. It’s just a couple of words that would sound coarse coming from a 6 year old that do not sound bad coming from a 7 year kid or older.

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is nowhere near as girly as My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake. Both of these titles are for younger girls who simply want things cute and kawaii. Star has just a little bit of an edge to make her a welcome addition to the all age comic world. Plus, as only $2.99, this is a comic book that parents won’t think twice about buying. At 29 pages of story and art this is a comic book that jams lots of value into that low price, it’s also on that your kids (especially girls) will really enjoy.
