We received this for review purposes. Any scares, lack of sleep or visions of terror are all ours. Horror films aren’t just something that folks appreciate in October. Horror Pack is a company that understands that and has the sole focus of providing them with horror films every month. Each month they ship out four different, new Blu-ray DVDs to people who the scares, monsters, evil and gore that a good horror film can be. Horror Pack is obviously something that is only OK for those over 18, unless you’re a footloose teen into one of those slasher films the kids like.
That’s a tall order isn’t it? Mainly because the horror genre has many subsets, there’s gore, monster, suspense, slasher, paranormal, teen horror, zombie and many others. And then even within those categories a film can be so bad that it’s good, while others are just great.
The 4 films that we got in our trial shipment from Horror Pack run the gamut between Hollywood to indie slasher film with an 80’s vibe.
Digging Up The Marrow from 2015 is an independent monster film about a film maker who is contacted by a man who can prove the monsters are real. I love the premise behind this and the special effect pictures on the back of the box make this the first movie that we’ll watch.
From 2015, Volumes of Blood is a horror anthology with five students going to a local library to explore some of their local legends. Blood, chaos and all manner of disturbed freaks with knives break out in this rural Kentucky town. We do like the subtle pun in the movie title that alludes to the films shooting location.
The Final Destination is also in the package. Note that it’s The Final Destination. I’m not sure which film this was in the franchise, but I’m sure that random young adults will tempt death, some will fail in spectacular fashion and others will get naked for a display of enough nudity to merit an R rating.
Wolfman was the final film that we received in our Horror Pack. Released in 2010 and starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins this one is Hollywood monster. I never saw it, but this particular version has alternate endings and all sorts of bells and whistles associated with big releases. The creatures in Wolfman were created by Rick Baker and there is a featurette with him about their creation.
