Pass the Windex and enjoy the rom com. When I married my wife I knew that there were a couple of her go-to movies that I would have to tolerate, enjoy or leave the room. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of those that I grew to enjoy. I don’t enjoy it as much as her or her friends, but it’s very fun to watch, even on repeated viewings. 14 years later My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is out on video and will provide everything that you liked about the first one, without going back simply for servings of nostalgia.
In My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 Toula and Ian are parents to Paris, a high school senior who is not wearing her Greek heritage on her sleeve. Gus and Maria have discovered that they’re not legally married, which forces her to want-and ultimately get a wedding. There are a couple other subplots, but those are the main two and the only ones that will matter for most of the viewing audience.
As a film My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 does not immediately go down familiar roads. It certainly alludes to them, but even once the film gets going it’s not just a retread of the original. For me, the casual fan, that was great because it gave me something new. For my wife, the super My Big Fat Greek Wedding fan it was even better. It gave her a chance to see the characters in a new light, but still had Gus finding the definition for every word is Greek and that family.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is a happy date night in with a pleasant rom com. Newbies or casual fans will be entertained while those who can quote the first film will hang on every shot. I liked the film also because of its production story and budget. This film was made for just under 18 million and made three times its budget back in theaters. There’s no 3D, big budget buffoon laughs, just a fun, goofy film about family and relationships.
This giveaway for My Big Fat Greek Wedding is for the Blu-Ray, DVD and digital copy of the film. It’s rated PG-13 for suggestive material.
