Our second year in attending MomoCon was even better than the first. Part of that was due to our kids now being 4 and 6, but part of that was due to us knowing what to expect. MomoCon is a fan convention that bring together anime, manga, games, animation and comics-and it is all age friendly. We’re 100% down with cons that up the ante and make it more for the adults, but a good all age Con is that ensures a future fan base and lets the parents have fun is welcome.
Walking around MomoCon was a treat, both with the kids and without. When I was with the kids there were several vendors who pointed out the all age aspect of their con, merchandise or characters. Everybody there got it and respected the fact that they could dress up, have fun and keep is fun for any age.
There are lots of after-hours activities that happen during MomoCon, but the kids, specifically the two small people I was with were exhausted after three hours. MomoCon is a sensory blast for any age. It’s packed with colors, movement, activity and noises that have the potential to beat you down quickly. Tens of thousands attend, yet because of its large home at the Georgia World Congress Center you never feel cramped.
Between all of the photo shoots, massive floor space, panels, guest speaker, movies and more this in a con that is approachable and fun for the family. Having said that, this is big and is quite easy to lose a 4 year old. We never lost ours, but he was distracted by some of the vendors or cosplay that he saw.
Here is the beauty of MomoCon. The cosplay that distracted him was never out of bound for his sensibilities. It was all costumed happiness, replete with people who knew their audience and were just out to have a fun time.
MomoCon is great time for any age, but is an all age con. Its backbone is Japan, anime, manga and animation, but anything cosplay and fan oriented is OK.
