Dig these classic moms on Netflix #StreamTeam

Hey, we’re part of the #StreamTeam for Netflix and were compensated for this post. Having said that, all thoughts are our own and these shows are off the chain. Hello Mother’s Day! This time of year always gets me thinking about the moms that are most influential in my life and the classic moms on Netflix. These are the moms that, for better or worse, are awesome. Some of the moms I grew up with and a couple are more current, but whose personality and bravado make for incredible viewing.

Netflix, mom, mother’s day, the wonder years, harry and the hendersons, E.T., Arrested development, breaking bad, everybody loves Raymond, Gilmore girls, the andy Griffith show.

The Andy Griffith Show, Francis Bavier, Aunt Bee Taylor- mom to Andy Taylor

Not only was Aunt Bee a great mom to Andy Taylor, she was also an aunt. Consider that this series is more than 50 years old and still funny is one reason why it’s a true classic. This is G rated television that anybody can watch and legitimately enjoy. Tell the kids to get over the fact that some of the episodes are in black and white, this is one that they need to see.

Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham, Lorelai Gilmore-mom to Rory Gilmore

Gilmore Girls is my wife’s jam. She’s a mom and spending time with Lorelai and Rory is her go-to medicine when she’s around too much noise and chaos.

Everybody Loves Raymond, Patricia Heaton mom to Geoffrey and Michael Barone, Doris Roberts, mom to Raymond

The first of our shows that has two moms that rock is Everybody Loves Raymond. This was just funny. There was no agenda, no grand world statements, just a well written show with characters that any family could relate to. Patricia Heaton as Ray’s wife and Doris Roberts as Ray’s mother are fabulous and produce many laughs on lots of levels.

Breaking Bad, Anna Gunn, mom to Walter White Jr.

Breaking Bad was Walter White’s show. The respectable teacher turned drug kingpin and his transition is mesmerizing.  His downfall brought about many side characters including his wife, Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn. Their son, Walter White Jr., played by RJ Mitte and their complex matriarchal relationship is not the stuff of healthy families, but it makes for great television.

Arrested Development, Portia de Rossi mom to Maebe, Jessica Walter mom to Michael Bluth

Who is the worst mom on Arrested Development? Is it Lindsay Bluth Funke played by Portia de Rossi with her deadpan look, flippant one liners or aloof attitude? Could it be Lucille Bluth played by Jessica Walter whose quick dialogue and perfect timing sometimes stole the show? Arrested Development is one of the funnies shows you’ll see on Netflix. Bob Loblaw and his law blog, jumping the shark and the banana stand, each episode has something to love.

E.T, The Extra-Terrestrial, Dee Wallace mom to Gertie and Elliot

It’s not perfect, but this time capsule of a separated family and the single mother raising two children will forever mark childhood for 80’s kids. E.T was also a great film by Spielberg and helped launch the summer movie season forever.

Harry and the Hendersons, Melinda Dillon, mom to Sarah and Ernie Henderson

80’s soundtrack, check. Teenage kids and parents, check. Family adopts a sasquatch, check. The film is a bit sappy, but it’s a great example of family friendly that 80’s kids (who are now moms) will love to watch.

The Wonder Years, Alley Mills mom to Kevin and Jason Arnold

Even though this show was set in the late 70’s early 80’s it always felt like the 60’s to me. The brotherly relationship, Whinnie and the father were always around, but it’s the mom that held them together. She may not have had the most scenes, but Alley Mills was there in 106 episodes of the 115 that made up The Wonder Years.

Obviously this is just a sampling of our favorite Netflix moms. Do you have a favorite mom on Netflix?
