One thing I’ve learned since being a parent is knowing what’s in your own backyard. People come to town and want to know what there is to do. One of our go-to attractions in Atlanta* is World of Coca-Cola. It’s a beautiful facility that can keep the family entertained for about three hours. The kids and I go t here about four times a year and they have a kick every time they go.
It varies from time to time, as well as, how old they are as to what their favorite room is. There are 13 separate attractions in the World of Coca-Cola, not including the Coca-Cola Polar Bear. Even our oldest child, who doesn’t like mascots or costumed figures at all, managed to sit still for a guy’s photo with the surprisingly interactive creature.
Our youngest loves the Bottle Works now. It’s a mini-me, slowed down production line for Coca-Cola, complete with robots and a chance for people to follow bottles of Coke like you’re trying to get Billy back home in the Family Circus comic strip. His older brother (and me) also thinks that exhibit is rather cool.
Milestones of Refreshment is the ‘history’ section of the tour, but it’s fun history that the kids want to see. It has thousands of products from all over the world about Coca-Cola, some of the earliest advertisements; distribution methods and photos help give it a real sense of time and space, minus the TARDIS.
Usually though the kids are super pumped to go to Taste It! This is the tasting room with over 100 different Coca-Cola beverages. They’re grouped by continents and some of the flavors range from the familiar to the what-the-heck-is-that. There is also a phalanx of those cool Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines that let you mix or choose from dozens of varieties that you’re already familiar with.
The Taste It! room is just before the exit, where you’ll pick up your 8ounce Coke that you saw the robots moving around earlier. We always put ours in the refrigerator and drink it the next day. It’s a good treat and gives parents a little leverage, just in case they need it for the next 24 hours.
*!!! If you plan on going to at least two attractions in Atlanta then CityPass is something that you definitely want to get. For $76 you can visit Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, CNN Studio Tours, Zoo Atlanta OR Center for Human and Civil Rights and Fernbank Museum of Natural History OR College Football Hall of Fame. For children the CityPass Atlanta price is $62. It’s a discount of 43% and is the way to see Atlanta on the cheap.
I like cherry coke the most.
