Skylanders SuperChargers teams with Autism Speaks to raise money

Our 6 year old loves to play Skylanders SuperChargers. Shocking, a 6 year old that likes video games I know. However, what is good for parents and by default, children, is that Skylanders SuperChargers is a near all age perfect game that the entire family can enjoy. I say ‘near all age’ because the game is rated 6+, so younger brothers or sisters can’t get in on the Skylands action yet. Skylanders has partnered with Autism Speaks to create some Power Blue SuperChargers vehicles and characters in honor of Autism Awareness Month.

Currently our youngest son is in the special needs class for his Apraxia. Many of the kids in his class have different and more advanced forms of Autism. It’s great when any company does something to support kids with certain issues as it helps them and their families.

Activision is supporting an employee-match donation program for Autism Speaks, promoting the Autism Speaks Walk on April 2 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA and making donations to non-profit organizations that are making a difference in that community. They’re also making cool SuperChargers characters like Power Blue Splat and Power Blue Trigger Happy with the Autism Speaks, Light It Blue logo in the upper right corner.  Of course their vehicles, the Splatter Splasher and Gold Rusher, which allow them to SuperCharge are also available.

Yes, vehicles. Skylanders Superchargers has the same fun play in previous games but brings in the fast moving elements of water, flight and land vehicles to move your Skylander through quicker. You still have parts of the game where you’re exploring territories on foot while fighting bad guys, it’s just intermixed with vehicles.

The SuperChargers element comes into play when a character is matched with their specialized vehicle. Players of previous Skylanders games will rejoice because those characters can play in this game. That sound you hear is our Fire Bone Hot Dog yelping with joy.

Our son took to Skylanders Superchargers very quickly, with just a little help from dad, and can maneuver his way around with ease. What he likes to do now is play with the different vehicles. The different ways to travel in the game are more than just a gimmick to separate money from the parent’s pockets. It’s a whole new way to play the game.

You can get through the game using one vehicle. However, thing of Skylanders SuperChargers like a puzzle and if you were to solve the puzzle that way there would still be 66% of the puzzle left to see-and play. The flight gameplay is fun and our son was pumped when he saved up his money to buy his own vehicle. He’s in the process of saving up change now so that he can buy a sea vehicle to play those element of the game too. It’s important to note that he’s buying them with his money. Sure we could’ve bought them, but he really wants them, so he’s learning the life lesson here.

Granted, we’ll be playing with his life lesson when he’s asleep.
