Movie trailers can be the bane of existence for movie goers. Personally, I want to see the trailer, but I do not want you to give away the farm. The trailer for Midnight Special is fabulous and barely lets viewers know what’s going to happen in the movie, but that’s a good thing in this case.
Watch the trailer for Midnight Special and see for yourself.
See? We know there’s a child with magical or possibly destructive powers who is on the run with his dad (General Zod/Michael Shannon) and another man. Kylo Ren is most likely the scientist tracking the boy. Plus they’re travelling in a muscle car through territory that looks like South Dakota. This seems like a well paced science fiction movie that respects the audience and doesn’t dumb it down.
This is a movie that nudged my curiosity from the moment I saw the trailer. It looks as if it was inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a statement that was confirmed by some of the reviewers who have already seen Midnight Special. The film also reminds me of Looper, which was one of our favorite films of 2012.
