I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Hasbro. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation Our children are excited to see Star Wars. I state the obvious. However, since they’re only 4 and 6 years old it will be a couple years before they see the new one. They’ll keep watching The Clone Wars to get their Jedi skills up to par and have already started double teaming us for some of the new Star Wars toys. We got a chance to play with Bop It! Star Wars R2-D2 Edition Game, Electronic Catch Phrase Star Wars Edition Game and Star Wars Loopin’ CHEWIE Game. I suspect that the Force was with them because they found the super secret hiding area where I keep things before they’re photographed. Like kids in the proverbial Star Wars candy shop, they got to play with them and here’s how your kids will like them.
I thought that the Star Wars Loopin’ CHEWIE Game would be too juvenile for our children. In reality this is the age range that is perfect for the game. Our 4 year old is at the entry point and the 6 year old is able to beat his brother most of the time. Chewie is on top of the Millennium Falcon, flying around in circles trying to knock down Stormtrooper who are personified on coins.
When the ship hits one of the coins it slides down into the holder. Each player gets three coins and the first person to knock down all of the coins wins. The skill of the game comes into play with the lever that can block the Millennium Falcon from hitting the coins. Think of it like a pinball flipper and try not to dwell upon the fact that by protecting the Stormtroopers you’re working for the Dark Side.
The Star Wars Loopin’ CHEWIE Game is one that our entire family loved. There is an element of skill involved as to how hard you push the lever. If you push it too hard then it’ll knock your coins out of the holder, however, if you push it just right then it will land exactly on your opponent’s coin and knocking it out of the way. Tiddlywinks meets Star Wars with a dash of pinball combine to make a very fun game that will keep children 4-6 occupied for hours. Children old than that will quickly master the game, but younger kids and parents will laugh and enjoy this all ages entry into Star Wars.

Bop It! Star Wars R2-D2 Edition Game is the classic Bop It!, but with a Star Wars twist. You listen to the commands that R2-D2 give out with range from bop it (on the top), twist it (R2’s silver top) or pull it (R2’s leg) down. It’s a memory game that’s good for one or more players. In-between each command you hear an upbeat soundtrack that really helps move the game forward.
Somewhere around the fifth command it starts to get funny. The kids start to laugh, intentionally try to trip up their friends, smile and look like they’re trying to concentrate really hard. But they then laugh when they lose. The sound effects on the toy have the original voices of C-3P0 and audio bleeps of R2-D2. Bop It! Star Wars is good for ages 8 and up and can be found exclusively at Wal-Mart.
For the tween or teen fans of Star Wars, Electronic Catch Phrase: Star Wars Edition Game is on their short list of gifts. It’s the classic Catch Phrase game, but with all things Star Wars. The game is shaped like a Millennium Falcon and has all the button that you need to operate it on the top. You need two teams to play the game and setting it up is very simple. Just turn it on, make sure that the score is 0-0 and select your level of difficulty.
That last step is important because the difference between Apprentice and Jedi Master is huge. During a test run with the game I could answer 29 straight answers in Apprentice. When I had the game set to Jedi Master I could only answer or recognize 8 out of 30. Chose wisely your Star Wars knowledge for your children will you.
Catch Phrase is played by one person on a team giving verbal clues or gestures so that the other team member can correctly guess the word in question. Each team has one minute per turn and the first team to get to seven wins the game with a congratulatory roar from Chewbacca. Star Wars fans aged 13 and up will certainly like this, however, if you have a younger child that really knows the movies they’ll be able to play with ease also.
