We’re part of the StreamTeam with Netflix and were compensated for this post. All thought are our own. It’s almost the end of the school year and the kids are giddy with anticipation of spending more time at home. The summer’s television schedule sometimes starts out low and ramps up towards the end. This year we will maintain a more consistent routine and these shows will help us do that. I’ve also included a couple options to entertain the parents for when they need a moment to relax.
Super 4
Playmobil comes to television in Super 4. It’s a CGI series that follows four main characters as they pass through distinct worlds with varying degrees of danger. Both children like this show and it’s got some clever, sublime humor that parents will get also.
All Hail King Julian
The kids are still watching this Emmy winner (yes, Emmy Winner) for Outstanding Children’s Animated Program. The joy in watching this show is in the vocal talents. They are top notch and make the show enjoyable for all ages and multiple viewings.
The Magic School Bus
I am so glad that our kids discovered this show. The Magic School Bus is a great example of a hopelessly dated cartoon from the mid 90’s that is still ridiculously fun to watch and educational. Guest voicing Tom Cruise, Sherman Hemsley, Tony Randall, Carol Channing and other these episodes are clever, smart and teach kids as much as they entertain them.
Transformers Rescue Bots
Robots transforming into rescue vehicles? Sign our five-year old up! The Rescue Bots must work with the humans to help them in their everyday lives. Occasionally, Optimus Prime or Bumblebee show up to shake things up, but this show is all ages adventure for boys and girls.
Animal Mechanicals
It’s a team of animals that can change into various mechanical shaped things to solve puzzles. Both of our children love it, it helps teach shapes, sharing, teamwork and patience.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Old school animation about a hedgehog that can run very, very fast is why your child will like this. The stories are safe, there is enough action for the kids and you can revel in its 80’s/early 90’s glory.
National Treasure
Pick on Nicholas Cage all you want critics, but this movie is awesome. It’s quick, light, breezy, fun and a great example of action with a touch of comedy. It’s worth re-watching if you haven’t seen in a while.
Hot Fuzz
It’s an entry in the trilogy that Simon Pegg and a fabulous example of dry spoofing of heavy action/cop movies.
Attack on Titan
It’s anime that is for the adults. Attack on Titan is the Japanese series (and movie) that has influenced major film makers and is on the way to becoming a live action film. The series is violent, moody and beautiful.
