Watching these three Blu-ray DVDs from BBC Earth made me realize that I need a bigger television. The sharp, unique images that accompany the score and narration are the way that life should look in my mind’s eye. Planet Dinosaur 3D, Wings 3D and Tiny Giants 3D are all in 3D if your television allows it, but can also be played on traditional sets. Each one of the films is amazing in its own right and here’s your chance to get all of them for free, just in time for Earth Day.
Of the three Blu-ray films we liked Tiny Giants 3D the best. It focuses on the really small critters, specifically a chipmunk and grasshopper mouse. We see how they eat, where they sleep and what they do in such detail and extremely close up. They are real, wild animals and how they filmed this is amazing. The film comes with a making of feature that explains how they managed to capture their small world so thoroughly. Tiny Giants 3D is great for all ages, premiered in IMAX in 2014 and is narrated by Stephen Fry.
Wings 3D is a film that I didn’t expect to enjoy at all. I mean, how exciting could birds be? The birds are fascinating, their migration, the detail that it was captured and the variety of climates make Wings 3D a very close second for us. Some of the birds move so fast that, even slowed down for film the water that irradiates off of their wings seems to glow.
I wish that they had a making of feature for this because I want to see the technical aspects of making this. Sure it was similar to Tiny Giants, but there are so many more creatures in Wings 3D it must have taken a small scale film army to accomplish the project. Wings 3D is great for all ages, but it might be slow for children under 7. It’s also great viewing for Doctor Who fans because David Tennant does the narration.
Planet Dinosaur 3D is great viewing for children 7 and up. The animation is very good and features uncommon dinosaurs that you don’t hear about, if you ever have. We have a five year old and know lots of names, but all of the ones in Planet Dinosaur were new to us. It’s as educational as it is fun to watch, with the dinos grouped into families and location.
Any of these videos from BBC Earth could add to Earth Day element if you’ll be teaching your children about that this month. It could be as simple as respecting the area around us, digging for things or questioning what the birds are doing.
Being small would be my last choice because of the predators, but it would would be a tough choice between being a dinosaur and being able to fly.
Be with the dinosaurs!!
I think they all will be great! But if I had to choose just one, it would be to stomp with the Dinos! 🙂
I would definitely fly. Thanks for the giveaway. I hope that I win.
