Our kids are 3 and 5, when Education.com asked if we wanted to evaluate Brainzy, it was well, a no-brainer. Brainzy is their latest online learning program that builds reading, math and computer skills for children 3-7. See it’s a great fit for us, but is the game really educational for the kids?
We’ve done some educational games for kids online, but they always were very product centered or didn’t teach valuable things. Granted some of the games in Brainzy teach them things, but at this stage if it’s actually fun for them and teaches then that is exactly what we’re looking for.
Brainzy has learning lessons for children PRE-K through first grade. The games and activities vary in their delivery, design, the way they’re played and are easily arranged on the right hand side of the screen under each learning area.
For example the First Grade Math area has nine areas of learning including Measurement, Subtraction, Addition, Geometry, Place Value, Time and others. In each area a green bar tracks upwards as your child completes tasks in the game. Each task is a different game or activity designed to help them master the things in the module. There are 10 different Measurement learning activities in that area which could include read along stories, speed games to see what is the highest and so on. This is good for him because it really helps him build on the skills that he learns in each area.
Our oldest has computer lab in his pre-school and has been tinkering with our computer (on our lap) since he was 3. It’s amazing to watch him interact and successfully use Brainzy on his own without any help. Today was a proud dad moment when he finally was able to double-click on the Google icon to open up a browser.
He laughs when he plays the games, is enhancing his math skills, learning how to spell words, getting confidence in his sight words and learning. Brainzy is guided by a cast of original characters that your child can choose to be as they play along. Ours chose to be Officer Ice Cream, so we know he’s down with following rules and like ice cream.
The games constantly change and each account can accommodate up to three players. That’s hand for when our youngest starts to get curious about the computer. Currently he just sits beside his brother as he learns, but we know that’ll change soon. Also as a parent you can track your child’s progress in all of the modules when the program starts.
My son would love this!!
