What the kids are watching on Netflix #StreamTeam

We’re part of the Stream Team with Netflix and were compensated for this post.  All thoughts are our own.  Since we cut the cord our television time has shortened and the caliber of it has increased dramatically.  Our kids don’t have to surf, instead they watch and under our supervision, watch some neat programming that we didn’t think that they would like.  Here’s a look at what the kids are watching and a couple that I’ve been digging as well.

Puss in Boots

Puss in Boots is the story of the swashbuckling cat that you met in his own movie, Shrek 2 and other places.  This is a Netflix original series and is quite entertaining.  It’s not always laugh out loud funny, but it does provide a constant grin with the occasional LOL moments.  Puss in Boots has 5 episodes on Netflix that are 22 minutes each and rated 7YO and up.

Our 5 year old liked it and wanted to see more of the show.  He’s never seen any reference to the character before,  he simply liked the playfulness of the cat and how he fought.

 The Hero of Color City

Our children stumbled onto this movie and watched half of it before I realized how cute it sounded.  On another viewing we all watched the second half of it and they absolutely loved it.  I was surprised by how much I liked it, but had never heard of it.

The Hero of Color City is for the kids.  The reviews weren’t kind to it for numerous reasons, of which some have valid points.  This is a kid’s movie that they will like and you will tolerate.  But they will like it and sometimes you just need the kids to be happy, don’t you?

Octonauts

We have a couple Octonauts toys, but had never seen the show because it just looks annoying, simplistic and preachy.  It was finally added to Netflix recently and the kids saw it one day over at Grandma’s house.  Of course, when they got home they had to watch more it.

Octonauts are disarmingly cute.  It features a variety of accents, has enough action to keep the boys interested and educational elements about the animals that they’re helping.  All of my apprehensions were laid to the side and this show is one that the entire family can watch and enjoy.

The French Connection and The Running Man

From 1971, the Oscar winning film The French Connection is classic Gene Hackman, William Friedkin directed crime story set in NYC.  If you like cop stories and haven’t seen this you must do so ASAP.

The Running Man is easily one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best films.  It’s funny, action packed, has great dialogue and an eclectic cast that makes this watchable over and over.  It has aged, but just in the right ways.

Brick Mansions

District B13 is a fabulous, French movie that stars the founder of Parkour, David Belle.  Brick Mansions is the American remake of that movie.  It stars Paul Walker, RZA, David Belle among others.  Brick Mansions is bad.  It’s an example of why Hollywood shouldn’t remake certain foreign films.

The action sequences are predictable.  They replaced parkour action with lots of guns, stereotypes and noise, lots of noise.  Don’t be fooled by the action in the trailer and simply watch the original.
