Children love to create things. Well, everybody loves to create things really. Ask a child if they can sing and they’ll belt out something with abandon. Ask an adult the same question and your answer will be more muted. Ask anyone if they like to play with Play-Doh and you’ll always get the same answer, yes. Seek and Squish is a new app from Play-Doh where you can squish the Play-Doh creations on the screen to reveal the hiding places of animals.
Our 5 year old loves animals. Barns, zoos, aquariums and the like are his home away from home. Seek and Squish is a natural love for him too. He goes through all of the different environments, squishes the hiding places, like the tree, iceberg, garden or wherever a creature could be hiding.
Once the creature is revealed their name will be displayed. If the creature is out of place, for example, the chicken is in the dessert, then a new screen will open saying that the chicken is in the wrong place, where do they belong? Users then have the opportunity to touch the correct area and will go back to the original screen on the app.
The animals change location every time. If I go to the farm immediately after leaving it then the animals will be in different locations. There are 8 different locations where the animals live, like the dessert, arctic, garden, ocean, savannah, forest, farm and jungle.
Once you find an animal an icon on the upper right starts flashing. Click on that and you’ll find out more details about the animal, where they live, what they eat and how to make a model of them in Play-Doh. Our oldest hasn’t ventured into actually ‘making’ the animals yet, but he gets the Play-Doh out and plays with it while he learns about the critters.
The curriculum in Seek and Squish was developed by preschool education experts. The app has the option to read it aloud or not. The vocabulary is right up our son’s alley, all about animals, how they behave and what they do. Seek and Squish is for preschoolers 3-6 years old, Play-Doh fans and anybody that loves animals.
The #SeekandSquish twitter party is Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 1-2 PM ET. Be sure to follow @playdatedigital and the hashtag to win some very cool Play-Doh prizes and more.
