This is a compensated post. All thoughts are our own and that really is us under the costume. I do love to dress up. However, I enjoy dressing up a bit more when it’s anonymous. To quote numerous bad lyrics, you can act a fool when you’re wearing a mask and it’s OK, acceptable, fun and occasionally inspiring. We dressed up as Optimus Prime and went to a couple parties, both of which weren’t expecting us and here’s what we saw in our quest of discovering that life is more fun in costume from Buy Costumes.
The Optimus Prime costume from Buy Costumes is detail rich and all ages love it. It also requires a helper to effectively put it on, mainly to zip the back zipper and put on the battle armaments that go over each arm. At first impression the costume appears fragile and it’s not meant to play football in, but is more durable than it first appears.
Follow the directions and you’ll be fine. A costume that requires directions was daunting at first for us. However, after putting it on several times we were fine with it, as long as we had a trusted helper nearby that could assist in the illusion.
Illusion is a great term for this costume. It looks like you are a robot from afar, especially if you sell it effectively. When people get closer they’ll see the illusion of the costume. It has 5 plastic pieces that accentuate the 3-D elements of the body suit in addition to the detailed graphics on it.
Hint: the costume is big. The smallest size will need some form of elevation, ie, platform boots. We’re 5’5 and needed the platform boots, it enhanced the costume and made Optimus even cooler..and bigger! Also, if you’re getting the voice changer, which I do recommend, put part of the Velcro really close to your mouth and then affix it. Ours slipped down when we were in costume and couldn’t put it back until the show was over. Also, wear (or paint some blue around the back of your neck) a blue turtle neck. This will fully complete the costume and allow the helmet to blend into the rest of the suit without your neck getting in the way.
Bonus: the costume has a zipper in the place where you would expect it, if (and when) you have to go to the bathroom.
