I take lots of photos for work. Some of them are great and some of them are simply stock images for moods or seasons that I need. Our almost 5 year old is getting a child’s camera for his birthday (don’t tell him!) and he isn’t allowed to take photos with ours yet. However, in honor of the International Photography Contest for Kids by National Geographic Kids we let him take a couple shots.
The majority of the results were less than stellar, but it was his first time. Next year when he’s about to turn 6 he’ll be much better and be able to enter. The International Photography Contest for Kids by National Geographic Kids is open for U.S. residents, ages 6 to 14 as of October 15, 2014.
Kids can enter various categories including Amazing Animals, Dare to Explore, Weird Bur True and Wild Vacation. Every entrant can submit entries in any category they want and can submit entries to different Categories at different times during the entry period. The limit is one (1) entry per Category.
Submitting them is simple. Just have a parent or legal guardian go to the website and enter. Online entries have to be 5 mb or smaller in a JPEG or JPG format. You can also send the photo through the mail and the complete rules can be seen on their site.
The grand prize winner gets a National Geographic Costa Rica Family Adventure for them and one parent or legal guardian.
Get cracking young photographers. You have one year to hone your craft before our child can enter.
