Kang & Kodos, the space aliens from The Simpsons are two of our favorite characters from the show. They’re the animated, alien equivalent of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets. Two sets of characters that both have great one liners, are sometimes present, but haven’t gone too far in regular episodes. Because of that, The Simpsons have always used Kang & Kodos sparingly and usually on the Halloween episode. Their first solo shot in comics is appropriately called Kang & Kodos and is very rewarding for fans of the show.
I don’t know if Kang & Kodos is a one-shot or one of the semi regular comics that Bongo Comics puts out. It feels like a one-shot, but it’s enjoyable enough to be a semi-regular comic, say one that was released every 6 months or so.
There are three stories of varying lengths, Q & A page with Kang & Kodos and a center spread that echoes a classic Simpsons episode.
Remember that episode? Loved it and while we won’t be using the bumper stickers that came in the issue they’re fun to have around.
There are lots of jokes that are consistent with the characters in the Simpsons. Bart and his friends get abducted and are trapped in a big bucket of galatic ice cream about to be eaten. They escape when Milhouse accidently plays some jazz music which is so bad it causes Kang to explode.
It’s a silly, all ages comic book fun that I enjoy more that our 5 year old. Even if 9 year olds have never seen the Simpsons they’ll enjoy any of their comic books. There is not a running story, so readers can jump in on any issue and feel right at home.
