Think Outside the Box at Children’s Museum of Atlanta

If you’re a parent think of Christmas morning or some other time when you child receives gifts that might require big boxes.  After they rip the present open, yell at the gift and then play with it, what do they do?   They play with the box.  The bigger the box the better.  If they can sit in the box or roll their toy cars through that’s awesome too.  Think Outside the Box is the new exhibit at Children’s Museum of Atlanta and is boxes, boxes and more.

Outside the Box entrance

Think Outside the Box is at Children’s Museum of Atlanta until December 31, 2014 and has three main areas of creativity.  There is the obvious Box Zone which is perfect for any kid.  That’s the area with boxes big and small, big enough to pretend it’s a car, boat or to make a castle out of.

Children will also enjoy the Imagination Station.  This big, blue block area has roads, tunnels and all manner of blocks to build things to contain balls or control where they go.  Slightly older kids will like Maker’s Space, an area where they use computers that have basic CAD programs to create vehicles, robots or other things that their young minds can dream up.

Our kids really enjoyed Imagination Station and Box Zone.  They were too young to get anywhere near Maker’s Space, but they liked the crafts that were in front of that area.  Kudos to the young staff that were helping at the craft area too.  They helped our 2 year old avoid a meltdown by taking time to show him the craft; help made it and then giving it to him.

Tools for Solutions at Children's Museum in Atlanta

What’s neat about Children’s Museum of Atlanta is that these exhibits keep changing.  Think Outside the Box will be there till the end of the year and then a new exhibit will be there.  I forgot how much our oldest loves Tools for Solutions.  That’s the ball area on the left as you enter the main room.  Put the ball in the crane, in the tube, in the water, up the conveyor belt and just watch it go.  It the ball version of Moustrap and kids love to watch the balls move around.

Entrance to Children’s Museum of Atlanta is $12.75 plus tax, children under 1 are free.

We received free tickets to check out Think Outside the Box, all thoughts are our own.
