Children love dinosaurs. Children love construction vehicles. A dinosaur construction vehicle is such a natural fit one wonders why a durable one for small hands isn’t in every sand box. Sure The Transformers have vehicles, but they’re more imagination play and not dig in the dirt, move sticks stuff for small children. Dino Construction Company has a lineup of vehicles that look like dinosaurs or vice versa depending on your allegiance.
We were provided with the Brachiosaurus Backhoe for review, however the Triceratops Bulldozer, T-Rex Skid Loader and the Anklyosaurus Steam Roller are also available.
The Brachiosaurus Backhoe is made of very strong plastic, has a moving backhoe and a telescoping head with movable jaws. The moveable jaws are important because our kids love to have him eat vulnerable action figures. Its tracks move in the dirt or sand and leave a mechanical looking dinosaur footprint.
The cab rotates all the way around and is big enough for nimble action figures to sneak in and go for a ride.
The only metal on the toy that the elements can get to are two screws in the black roof that covers the cab. On the underside there are two screws if you accidently leave your Brachiosaurus upside down in the elements. I point out the lack of screws to drive home that this is a durable toy that is very well made.
The Dino Construction Company won the Gold Seal from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio for 2013. That’s the gold seal that you’ll see on some toys and wonder what the heck is that gold seal. It’s the only independent consumer review of children’s products by child development experts Joanne & Stephanie Oppenheim. It means quality children’s products.
In playing with the toys you’ll notice how flexible they are. The backhoe has two joints that move, allowing it to flex one length of the vehicle away from itself. It also has a flat surface on the backhoe so young construction experts can push things away without putting them in the bucket.
This is a fun toy, entirely kid powered and yours will love it. We’re taking him to the beach next month and letting him loose on mounds of sand at an unsuspecting Atlantic beach. Rogue action figures be warned.
