Yes, is probably the answer to that question, isn’t it? I do love our yard, but if I won a $10,000 celebrity backyard makeover from TruGreen I’d certainly get a fire pit, gazebo and flatten an area for a bocce ball court. TV host Jason Cameron would come to my house and guide me of course, but those 3 things are on the wish list. Until April 18, they’re giving away prizes of up to $250 every day. Plus they’ve got yard tips galore on their web site.
Some of the tips are comforting, as in I’m not the only one that has those circular brown spots, aka, brown patch lawn disease. And red lawn disease? I’ve never even heard of that partially because that’s what folks in cooler climates get. Seeding, feeding, weeds, watering and all things related to the yard are there as a resource.
This is our yard in the early part of spring. The yellow flowers as our children call them come out. Our neighbors don’t have yellow flowers. Thankfully the yellow flowers are accompanied by a bouquet of green shrubbery that our son likes to pull. (Alternate phrasing, we make a game out of pulling weeds. When our children are older they will realize this isn’t a game). I need to get the yard treated.
Our family uses the front yard in the morning and the back yard in the afternoon. That is due to the heat and how blazing hot it gets after 2:00. Our oldest has recently discovered the joys of rolling down the hill, we’ll practice kicking or playing Frisbee golf. I know that they’ll have just as fond memories of this yard as I do of mine growing up.
To help add to their memories we’re going to fix up the split rail fence so that they can climb it. It’s just for decoration, but as they’ve gotten older they want to do something with it. Rather than fight the system I’ll simply make it stronger so that they can at least climb it.
I’m also going to put a flower bed around our vegetables. The springtime buffet for the rabbits, chipmunks and other small critters is closed. Last year we harvested less than 5 tomatoes from 3 plants, it was the most expensive, but tasty red tomatoes we’ve had. This year it’s different.

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for TruGreen. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. All thoughts are my own and that really is my front yard.
