We love our garden, even though we don’t know everything about it and often lose more than half of our tomatoes, we love it. There are also blueberries, raspberries and a couple other edibles in there, but their loss is usually greater than 50%. Bugs can help me with this and this weekend Pike Nurseries is having a free class to educate folks about the good bugs that can help our gardens.
April 26-27 your local Pike Nursery is giving away 1 million lady bugs. I’ve heard that lady bugs are some of the good bugs, but I’ve no idea why. It’s probably not because they’re polite. I also know that daddy longlegs are good bugs because they eat some spiders, but I don’t know how to attract daddy longlegs to my house.
One time we had two kids over at the house and they informed me that daddy longlegs have really strong jaws, but because their legs are so long they can’t bite us, only their prey.
With spring officially here now many seasonal bugs are returning.. Instead of trying to rid gardens of these creepy-crawlies, there are the beneficial bugs that help keep plants healthy. This weekend Pike Nurseries is hosting a Ladybug Weekend on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at all store locations.
Ladybugs are a form of organic pest control, these little ladybugs do wonders for the garden since they prey on damaging pests like aphids, thrips and spider mites. Families can learn about ladybugs and how to attract other beneficial bugs, including praying mantis, hoverflies and more, during a FREE informational customer class on Saturday, April 26 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. at all Pike Nursery locations. Children can also enjoy fun ladybug coloring sheets. Whether guests are green thumb gurus or just getting started, the experts at Pike Nursery will be on hand to give gardeners of all levels some ladybug luck!
