Snuggle The Baby: interactive toddler laughs and education

The cover for Snuggle The Baby confused me at first.  Without reading the press release I dived right in and looked it over.  I don’t get it, I thought after going through it once.  I then went to the front and back cover and clearly understood what the book was trying to accomplish.  “An interactive book!” it says on the front and “includes gentle instructions…..for practice and play” on the back.  Boom, now I get it, you do too don’t you?

Daddy Mojo reads Snuggle the Baby

Snuggle The Baby is an interactive book aimed at children 1-4 who are expecting a new brother or sister.   Think of Babies 101, write the book for young children, make it a board book with bright happy pictures (that has some cut-outs!) and you’ve got an idea of Snuggle The Baby is like.

The cover of the book is thick and soft, just perfect for a 2 year old to chew on.  While I don’t encourage children to eat or chew on books, I know what a 2 year old will try to do and chewing on books is very high on that list.   That’s also a good age for them to expect a baby brother or sister.

Our oldest was 2 when his brother was born.  He knew that another baby was coming, but I forget how we told him that.  Snuggle The Baby would’ve been perfect for him when he was that age.  I remember that he was excited and never tried to return him, but some of the neighborhood kids asked where he would live when the baby arrived.

Snuggle the Baby gives a great overview of what to expect from that new baby.  Some of the pages are just text with big illustrations while others have interactive components to them.  They range from something as simple as raising their arms to taking out a bottle and ‘feeding’ the baby.  When you take the bottle out of the page one side of it is full, while the other side is almost empty-that’s great, creative detail for a children’s book.

This book isn’t for all children.  If you’re not expecting a brother or sister your child won’t have much use for it, unless they’re extremely maternal and into baby dolls.  However, if you’re expecting another one this will really help you out.

I took the book to our pre-school the other day and the secretary asked about it.  She flipped through it and said that her son was expecting their second child and that this would be perfect for them.  Yes, it is, they’ll get enough baby outfits and the oldest child needs something to understand what’s going on.
