One barometer of how old my children are is the shows that they watch. Both boys love Thomas, but back when our first was young the transformation from real to computer animated trains threw me for a loop. Now the computer animation is what I expect from Thomas, Cranky and his other friends on Sodor. Now our 2 year old watches Thomas the Train with his older brother, while he tries to pretend he doesn’t like it.
Spills & Thrills has 6 new adventures with Stephen, Salty, Hiro, Diesel and more all trying to do the right thing, but sometimes falling short or making a mess in the process. If you’re new to the world of Thomas the Train all of the stories end with a lesson that children can take away about the importance of sharing, not being jealous, hard work and bravery.
Each episode in Thomas & Friends is about 10 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time to cook dinner (if they watch two) or for a quick break when you just need some quiet. A bonus of the episodes on DVD is that they can be watch in Spanish, French or English. Our oldest is hip to the fact that we watch tele in Spanish sometimes and has gotten quick at saying “I want to watch it in English”. He’ll thank us one day.
There are seques between each episode on the DVD that have a conductor reading a book or something to bridge each one. Kids 2-5 will love it and the entire release is 67 minutes. It retails for $14.98, but you can probably find it for $10 or so online. That’s a good price point for 6 episodes, but it would be nice if that included a digital copy too.
We received a copy of the DVD for review purposes. All thoughts are our own, really.
