We love avocados in our house. It’s nature’s butter and is great on anything. Additionally, the lifespan of an avocado is frustrating, it’s perfect for seemingly one day and then it’s too ripe to eat all of it. So, what is the best way to cut an avocado? Using a spoon to scoop out the avocado never felt like the right way to do it. It wastes too much, takes take too long and produces a mash of avocado that was tasty, but had very poor presentation.
Kudos to my wife who was talking to a chef at her work that told us about this way to cut avocados. She was complaining about the wasted amounts when she cut them and they told that this was their favorite way to peel avocados.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the avocado into two halves.
- Take a spoon and remove the pit from the middle.
- Place both avocado sides with the skin up.
- With a sharp knife cut the avocado (skin first) into the size slices you want.
- Once you’ve finished, lightly removed the skin from the edible part of the avocado.
- Do the same thing with the other half.
By doing this you’ll have dozens of slices that are easier and cleaner to use on sandwiches, crackers or however you choose to eat them. You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to cut an avocado this way makes your meals look much better too.
It’s really simple.
For a variety on this theme you can cut the quarter the avocado instead of cutting it into slices. Bigger slices can be better for bigger food items like a quesadilla or when you need to cut it quicker.
