A couple of weeks ago I discovered one of the most promising all ages comics that I’ve seen in a while. Lloyd and the Bear is like Calvin & Hobbes in space. Despite my clunky analogy, it’s original, in brilliant full color, appropriate for all ages and enjoyable for adults.
The second issue picks up where the first one ended, with Lloyd and his bear traveling through space. Their friendship has grown and they’re en route to a trading hub planet to find answers and possibly more Burians. Burians are the race that Bear comes from and are a race of chatty, teddy bear creatures who can fight when they need to.
This is a great comic. It’s refreshing and a perfect reading opportunity for children 6 and up. I only place the age here because I’m guessing that age can read most of the words. In reality our 4 year old looks at Lloyd and the Bear and loves the colors, but can only recognize some of the sight words. There is enough action to keep them entertained, all the while being silly, respectful of the young audience and fun.
I grew up reading Spidey Comics. It was a Marvel Comic under The Electric Company and I still remember going to the book store once a month for 3 to 4 years to get the latest issue. That was my gateway to reading and I still read lots today. And yes, I read books, in addition to comic books, wisenheimer.
We receive some of the comics from Comixology for the purposes of review. All thoughts are our own
