I’m a big Rush fan. They were long overdue to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Justice served, they’re in and have just been given the lullaby treatment from Rockabye Baby!
Rockabye Bab!y Rush is essentially shorter versions of some of their classic songs slowed down just a bit and played on xylophone. When I write that down I think to myself that there is no way this combination could be good. “Good” is relative; I liked it, my children liked it and my wife (who thought she wouldn’t like it) liked it. It’s not rock and roll Rush good, but it is entertaining, small children like it and it brings back memories of great music for mom and dad.
The songs are relaxing and have a lounge quality about them. That is not entirely a bad thing. This disc is meant for children, but once you accept the fact that the songs won’t rock out, it’s also good for parents.
It reminds me a bit of Martin Denny. Denny is a lounge legend whose work in the late 50’s and early 60’s personified what came to be Lounge. If you’re not familiar with Martin Denny and like the Rockabye Baby! series you should definitely check his stuff out.
Bottom line
Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Rush is relaxing for children and entertaining for adults. It can be too relaxing (lullaby inducing) for adults, but only after a long day of caring for the children. If you like Rush, you’ll really dig Rockabye Baby! Rush. There is also a very clever recipe for children called A Farewell to Peas included in the liner notes.
We received a copy of the CD for review purposes. All thoughts are our own. Trees is also quite possibly the best song every written.
I got into these with our first, somewhere around 7 years ago. They’ve been our good friend through three little ones. My favorite has been Baby Bob Marley. I’ve dozed off to these tunes more than once.
