A rattle is a rattle. We received lots of them for each child when they were born. They were silver or multicolored plastic, made a rattling sound and did everything a rattle should do. But what if a rattle could do more than just make a shaking noise when a baby moves it? A NogginStik is just that, it’s bumpy on the stick part, has multicolored lights and a mirror on the bottom of it.
Our 14 month old crawler loves his NogginStik and keeps it with him in the crib. When he first got it he wanted to carry it everywhere. It went in the car, to preschool (to drop off his brother) or the store-anyplace that we went so went the NogginStik.
Every time you move the NogginStik it changes colors. Move it once it’ll turn green, shake it and it’ll turn yellow, put it in a different place and it’ll turn red. The stem of the toy is the perfect size for baby hands and the yellow bumps encourage them to feel it.
The base of the toy is mirrored so they can look at themselves. All of these bells and whistles wouldn’t mean anything if the NogginStik wasn’t durable. Ours has been dropped from the high chair, fallen from stroller, taken tumbles in Target and been beat like a drum stick on the carpet by a happy crawler. It’s durable; the device still lights up and hasn’t shown any sign of wear in the 2 months that we’ve had it.
According to the manufacturers, the device is supposed to improve eye tracking, focus and facial recognition as an infant. I don’t know too much (see anything) about cognitive, emotional, social or physical development of an infant. Supposedly all of the aspects of the NogginStik encourage children to learn quicker and by physically adept at an earlier age.
I don’t know if that’s true or not, we’ll be able to test out that claim in a year or so when More Mojo starts to talk, read and walk.
Does he like the NogginStik more than his other rattles? Oh yes.
The NogginStik does retail for $19.99 and that is a bit more than the average rattle. However, I can think of 4 toys similar to this that More Mojo has had in his short 14 months here and the NogginStik is by far the one that he’s liked the best.
We were provided with a complimentary copy of the NogginStik for review purposes. All thoughts are our own.
