OH, NUTS!, by Tammi Sauer and illustrations by Dan Drall

You’d be crazy not to like OH, NUTS! by Tammi Sauer

As a dad, some of the best books that I can read to my children are those that I can enjoy too.  I also don’t want there to be too many words and if I can read it without putting my glasses on that’s a plus.  With those classifiers in mind, OH, NUTS! is a fabulous book.  It’s clever enough to keep adults entertained; the children will love the illustrations and learn a life lesson about being happy.

Cutesy, Blinky and Bob are three chipmunks that live at the zoo.  Our three friends are used to not receiving much attention, but one day when the lazy sloth gets groupies they hatch a plan to get noticed.  They dress up in costumes and change the way they act all in order to get people to notice them.  By the time it’s all done our chipmunks do get everyone’s attention, but learn that the most important thing is just being yourself.

The cute story of a children’s book means nothing if its illustrations don’t meet it halfway.   That is the really great thing about OH, NUTS!  The illustrations have both an old and new school appearance to them.  Adult readers of the book will draw parallels between Dan Krall’s illustrations and old school Warner Brother’s animation.  At the same time young readers will appreciate the manic activity that happens on each page.

Our 3 year old loves OH, NUTS!, but it’s a book that great for any age.

We were provided with a complimentary copy of the book.  All thoughts are our own.
