Merlot from The California Wine Club

The California Wine Club review, part duex: No wrath of these grapes

As I enter my second month of being a member of The California Wine Club I was reminded of something great.  It is awesome to get something in the mail, the day before you need it-when you forgot that you were getting it.

We were having some friends over for a nice game of dominos.  One of them is a wine drinker and the other one drinks beer.  We were running very low on red wine in the Mojo house, but just the other day our shipment from The California Wine Club had arrived.

To recap:  The California Wine Club selects great wine from the Napa Valley area each month.  They’ll ship you a red and a white (or two award winning wines of the same if you prefer) and all of these wines are from smaller, quality wineries from that area.

With friends coming over for a relaxing game I quickly went to our wine cellar (the bookshelf) and pulled out a bottle of red.  The wine has a deep, ‘oaky’ flavor and was one of the best wines I’ve had in recent memory.  As I’m not really a wine connoisseur, I asked our wine drinking friend how she liked it.  “This is a really great wine, it’s full of flavor, has hints of raspberries and a deep Oak flavor”, she said.

The convenience of having the wine delivered to our house is awesome.  Factor in that the wine is from smaller, independent growers, thus giving me a chance to one-up my friends by introducing them to hidden gems.   What’s equally as cool is that I won the game of dominoes that night with a score of 96 after 6 games.  While it probably wasn’t the wine that helped me win, I can’t entirely rule it out.

This review was made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own. I received a 2 month Membership to the California Wine Club for the purpose of this review.  I really did win that night in dominoes, don’t think it was the wine that made me luckier or smarter, but can’t disprove it either.
