The Philips Norelco AT830: Shaving with a vengeance #realpro #norelco

I’m in the second week of shaving with an electric, specifically the Phillips Norelco PowerTouch with Aquatec shaver.  There is something about the name of the product that reminds me of Dallas; like Patrick Duffy is about to announce that it’s all been a dream.

One reason I was curious about trying an electric razor is that most weeks around Thursday I would look disheveled from not having shaved since Monday.  I’d start out meaning to shave, but get lazy, say I’d do it in the morning….and suddenly it’s Thursday and I look like I’m just getting back from a bender at the Sig Ep house.

The convenience of electric shaving is something I’ve always been envious of.  It’s the weird feeling and ingrown hairs that I didn’t like.   As I enter my second week of shaving without the blade-and with a cordless electric shave I’m pleased to say that it has succeeded on both counts.

Don't judge the book by its weight or noiseI was very skeptical.  When I first picked up the Phillips Norelco PowerTouch I grimaced and laughed, my wife asked what was wrong.  “This feels like a toy, hold it”, I said.  The device is so light weight that I didn’t think that it could cut anything, much less my facial hair.  It didn’t get better when I turned it on, because it doesn’t make any noise.  It’s not that my cordless shaving devices need to sound like they’re gas powered, but I was certainly expecting something other than nothing.  Sure I’ll try this light weight shaving device that feels like a toy and makes about as much noise as a hybrid car.

Well make me write bad checks.  Not only did the PowerTouch closely shave my face it did so very, very quickly.   I can shave my entire face in under a minute and a half.  It’s a close shave, with no loose hairs between my neck and face.   In the two weeks we’ve been using it we also haven’t had any ingrown hairs, even on our neck.

Yuck, I know.  But keeping it real, that’s the worst part of shaving your face.   Those rogue hairs that kind of get cut when you shave, but they just go back under the skin until you have to pop them like a zit.  We have had none of those in the past two weeks.  We used to average about one of those a week.

Bottom Line

Even though I stay at home to two small children, it’s good to have a clean shaven face towards the end of the week.  I look more presentable and can nuzzle with my wife (who is not a fan of facial hair).  This is a great razor with a surprisingly low price point that’s quick and to the point.

Phillips Norelco made this cool spot that features 5 blogging dads.  Odds are you’ve read a couple of them; it’s a nice, sublime spot that really highlights Dad.

The Next Step

We’ll try the shaver for another week then give away a Phillips Norelco PowerTouch with Aquatec and the Vacuum Stubble and Beard Trimmer Pro.

Disclosure: I received 2 Phillips Norelco products for review, a beard trimmer and a shaver.  All opinions are always 100% and my own.
