My family and I just returned from Disney Social Media Moms at Walt Disney World. While I was there I had the opportunity to meet Ridley Pearson and hear him speak about getting kids motivated about reading. Ridley was a very engaging speaker who effortlessly weaved tales about Dave Barry, 10 foot Pythons and the creative process of writing a book into an entertaining, linear story.
If you asked my mother-in-law how to motivate children about reading, she would simply suggest “just read his books!” She and my wife have been big fans of Peter and the Starcatchers, the series that he co wrote with Dave Barry, ever since they came out.
Pearson has written 16 bestselling novels and his latest is Shell Game from the Kingdom Keepers series. This book series is aimed at younger readers and is about the adventures that a group of children have after hours in the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. Some of the audio animatronics characters come to life, Disney villains plan overthrows of the Kingdom and many more adventures.
Ridley will be appearing live, in person at Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, May 3 at 7:00PM. His presentation is very enjoyable and if you’re a fan of his work or young adult books you’ll really like it. He’s also giving away a prize, just check out his website for details. Hint: to win the prize you’ll need to know a bit about Kingdom Keepers: Shell Game.
My attendance at Disney Social Media Moms was not compensated and they did not require that any posts be produced. This post represents my views and is simply being written as informational.
