Waterpik Water Flosser

The power of H20 and the Water Flosser to clean my teethy grin

I love that feeling after you just brushed and flossed your teeth.   There was once a time when I didn’t floss my teeth regularly.  I didn’t know that it was important, was living overseas and was scared to visit the dentist.  When I finally visited the dentist they told me that I had 8 cavities between my teeth.

“You can get cavities between your teeth?”, I said.  The dentist proceeded to break out the 8 cavities into a payment plan so that they could fill them all at one time.

Since then, I love flossing.   I was offered the chance to review the Waterpik Water Flosser.    Water for flossing?  I knew that water, when focused is strong enough to do most anything.   I’ll use H2O (not the bad Halloween movie)to floss, my mouth, sure thing.   One only wishes they’d used more H2O on that awful Halloween script to flush out a decent movie, but back to the topic at hand.

The Waterpik Water Flosser comes with 7 tips that do specific tasks, like the Tongue Cleaner Tip, Plaque Seeker Tip, Orthodontic Tip (for braces) and others.  I filled the reservoir with warm water, put the Classic Jet Tip on and started to floss.

Oh, you know the occasional pain or bleeding that you experience while using string to floss?  There is no pain when using the Water Flosser.  Literally, in the highest to lowest order of pain it goes, flossing with string and then watching Halloween H2O.

Initially it was a bit odd flossing without running string between my teeth.  It took a couple nights before I really got used to it and figured out the best form to blast the water between my teeth.  The Water Flosser has 10 settings for water pressure.   I started out with it on 1, but then increased the pressure to 5.

You can really feel the water flushing out the gunk between your teeth.    That sounds disgusting.  But would you rather have the gunk flushed out by water or thrown up into your mouth using string?

Start out using the Water Flosser at the back molar, go around the front of the teeth, then hit the back side of the teeth.  You’ll feel the difference immediately.  I used the Tongue Cleaner Tip on the fifth or sixth night and it’s amazing.  It cleans your tongue immediately and more effective than brushing.

Water Pik says that the Water Flosser is twice as effective as string floss, removes 99% of plaque and is three times as effective as string floss around braces and dental work.    For me a big benefit of using the Water Flosser was not having to wrangle string between my upper back molars.  My back teeth are very difficult to floss with string; but easily accessible with the Water Flosser.

The only downside to the Water Flosser is that it can be messy and wet.  However, after using the device twice you’ll figure out the best way to use it.  There is a readily accessible pause button the machine that will stop the water which will solve any issues.

  1. I have the cordless waterpik. I have a bridge and pretty sensitive gums and flossing with the water pik is about three billion times better than traditional floss. I LOVE it!

    1. TESTIFY!  My wife makes fun of me because I like flossing so much now.  I started putting some mouthwash in mine and my mouth feels even better when I use it.
