“Full term”, that’s a phrase moms should’ve heard on your most recent trip to the doctor. The baby is as big as a watermelon, had dropped by now and it’s all over but the shouting, literally. Here’s a punch out list of things that you dads need to get a handle on before the big day arrives.
The Baby Book
Dads, if you haven’t purchased a baby book you should do so quickly. It’s a fabulous keepsake for your child and it will make your wife happy as well. Now that mom is hopefully sitting down most of the time the baby book will give them a chance to write down things about the family, post photos and look forward to it being over.
We purchased one baby book that didn’t have any space for you to write notes down about the baby. Be sure to get a book with lots of blank space to document things. A book that predominately has spaces for pictures sounds nice, but in reality you’ll never put photos in there, will you?
If your wife doesn’t have time to write now she will during her recuperation period after the baby is born. Take a couple photos of the ultrasound, the house and the two of you so that she can complete as much of it as possible before you bring home the baby.
Household chores
I swear my desk was this dirty two years ago when Toddler Mojo was born. It’s my goal to get it clean before More Mojo joins us. There are a couple other simple tasks that need to be done around the house.
I know that time will only get more valuable once the second one arrives so we’ll try to get to a couple of them this weekend.
Pregnancy photos
Take photos of your pregnant wife. Your wife may be hesitant to do this. Babble has some great examples of before & after photos in this gallery.
Another idea is to take advantage of one of the “daily deal” type sites that often has special from local photographers. We used that option to get some great shots done at a local park that included the family, while the before & after pregnancy ones in the backyard ourselves.
Dads, get some exercise
I’m busy just like you. I’m also very lazy, just like you. However, we all know that if you get exercise it will increase your metabolism, which will give you energy. You will need the energy in a couple weeks. Granted you can probably use the energy now too.
Dads, if you do want to start exercising and need some gear, you can use this Finishline promotional code to help you save some dosh.
- Work on your back because you’ll be bending over the crib many times a day
- Stretching will strengthen the lower back and hopefully avoid “mommyitis.”
We went through a three month lazy period, but are now getting back on the exercise train. Two weeks from now your life will be totally different, prepare for it now and enjoy the ride.
Yipes, I’ve forgotten all this stuff. I sure don’t miss the smell of wipee’s! Yipes, that smell still haunts me!
