It’s Mother’s Day Weekend! As any stay at home dad-with a pregnant wife and 19 month old toddler will do- I’m on toddler entertainment duty all weekend. It’s a weekend like this that Dad is glad that most of the weeds in the yard were dealt with in April.
Weed Challenge Recap
On the back porch we sprayed Ortho Weed B Gon, the front walk way had Round Up and the front garden had Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer. Three weed killers enter, one weed killer leaves. It’s like Thunderdome and I’m Master Blaster, or more accurately, I would be Blaster and Toddler Mojo would be Master.
The Back Porch
As the Mojos will be grilling here in a couple weeks it was important to get this area weed free. These weeds were the annoying types that come up in between the cracks. They aren’t the end of the world, but they are annoying and just pulling them doesn’t do the trick. Let’s look at the pictures and see who won.
As you can see, all of the photos are essentially the same, except for the first one, which shows a lazy dog mugging for the camera. On April 23rd we sprayed the remaining Spectracide on the area, and then pulled the dead, weed carcasses up from the ground.
The Front Walk Way
It’s a small patch of weeds, but as it’s on the walk up to the front door it makes a big statement. This is an impact weed, in other words.
On April 23rd we sprayed the remaining Spectracide on the area, and then pulled the crackling weed stumps out from the ground with a vengeance. What remains is the chunky bit of weed root that I need to pick out with screwdriver.
The Front Garden
I’ve always wanted a front garden with two little half naked cherubs greeting people. This dad will not be vexed by weeds getting in the way of these oddly angelic looking alabaster creations. On April 14 we sprayed Spectracide on this area and haven’t seen a weed in the area since then.
Ding, ding
Spectracide won this weed challenge without much competition. For our Mojo money it’s the only thing that we’ll use to rid ourselves of weeds from here out. We were told by one reader that all weed killers were bad and cause damage to the environment and people. Being an eco friendly kind of guy, if you know of a super eco friendly option then well give it a try.
