Ask anybody with a toddler and an iPhone or iPad and you’ll get the same response-“they won’t give it back”! Our toddler is just 19 months old and loves, absolute loves our iPad. The fact that he can control, learn and play with it makes his iPad time something he looks forward to. Granted, he doesn’t know when iPad time is, as it usually occurs when he’s on the verge of a melt down or needs something to hold his attention.
The only drawback with the iPad is that little fingers can turn the device on and off very easily. Five seconds into an app his tiny hands will be reaching for the on/off button. Once he finally gets into an app and plays around the moment he gets flummoxed then he’ll push the button. It got to the point where mom and I feared for the safety of our iPad, in addition to being concerned that Toddler Mojo will only learn half of the alphabet.
We tried putting the iPad’s on/off button in between our legs, but he quickly figured out that he can pry his tiny hands against the machine to turn it off.
I briefly entertained the idea of a butterfly clip, but my wife pointed out that it could damage the iPad.
Then I heard about BubCap. It’s a patch that goes over the on/off button for your iPad or iPhone and prevents children from being able to turn it on or off. The BubCap works like a charm, it’s really amazing.
We’ve had the BubCap on our iPad for a couple days now and Toddler Mojo has already learned that when he wants to go to another app he’ll look pathetic and whine. However, that is much better than potentially damaging the iPad. I would post video of Toddler Mojo trying to turn the machine off but I don’t want people to think ill of me. The BubCap puts the kibosh on small, toddler hands playing with the on/off switch to your device STAT.
What is even better is that he will now spend minutes, as opposed to seconds, in each app before he gets frustrated and has to leave. We’ve also learned what he likes about each app, which in turn allows us to better choose the apps that we download.
BubCaps come in a thicker version (Ultra) that is perfectly suited for the iPad and a thinner one that is more appropriate for the iPhone(Regular). The regular one will not work on the iPad, don’t be cheap and try it because we did and it didn’t work-a child can still access the power switch on the iPad with the regular one being used.
BubCaps are super affordable, only $5 for a pack of four of them. You can get a mix package or a four pack just for the iPhone or iPad.
If you have a child and an iPad or iPhone, the BubCaps are a simple, affordable solution for you to get your device and sanity back.
Note: Daddy Mojo received a sample pack of BubCaps. Having said that, they’re only $5 and we wish we would’ve purchased them when Toddler Mojo first started using the device.
