Big Book Bargains in the Atlanta Burbs

I love books.  Because of that it’s not too surprising that Baby Mojo loves books.  At bedtime either mom or I will read a book to him, then leave his bed light on while he sits in his crib and reads himself to sleep.  When we go into to change his diaper later in the night it looks like the Book Town mafia shot down our son with an outline of cardboard children’s books.

Earlier this week I wrote about some good book options in North Atlanta.  As the bigger of the two events gets closer I wanted to spell out more details and emphasize certain things.  The Cobb County Public Library book sale happens twice a year and has over 175,000 books for sale.  This book sale is huge and is something that must be attended by all book worms.

The county where you live probably has a bi-annual book sale too.  It’ll be one of the larger counties, they all may not have it, but one of them is guaranteed to because they have to get rid of the books.

A library has multiple copies of the best sellers and there are thousands of books that have ripped sides or can’t be borrowed out anymore.  What happens when that best seller gets six months of age on it?  You’ve got too many copies of a book that used to be popular and that is what’s so great about this book sale.  There are many recent copies of best sellers all for $1, you can experiment with authors that you thought about reading, but never could get the book.

The Cobb County book sale takes place spread out over three buildings that are packed with books, magazines, comic books, audio tapes and anything else a library might have.  Prices will range from .25 to a dollar or two for hardback books.

The first time I went to this book sale I was advised to bring a cart with wheels.  I didn’t because I thought the cart would make me look like an old man who was there buying old books for the moose lodge.   This time I’m bringing a cart and Baby Mojo is not roaming around.  He will be in stroller lockdown while I pile books underneath him.

It’ll be crowded.  Depending on the time of day that you go hundreds of people could be there.  Even if that’s the case, the bargains are still worth it, go.

Call your local county library to see when they are having their bi-annual book sale.  Otherwise I’ll see you this weekend at the Cobb County Library Public Spring Book Sale, March 4, 5, 9:00-5:00 and March 6 1:00-5:00 at Jim R. Miller Park, Exhibit Halls A & B, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta, GA

  1. Thanks for the tip bro! I might make that happen on Friday, it’s a bit of a haul from where I live but may well be worth the drive.

    1. If you’re looking for anything special let me know and I’ll look for you. I’ll be there at 9 with sharp elbows and Baby Mojo in the stroller.
