I love tools. It is my belief that every guy, especially every dad loves tools. We purchase tools that we really don’t need, I’m guilty of that. If you can use it once, in a justifiable manner, then it’s OK to buy. Really, it’s in the man bible, check out the audio version that Mike Rowe did, he gave us permission.
Before I was a dad I never had a need for my now most commonly used tool. I thought they were some sort of wussy pseudo tool that was used only eyeglass repair people and miniature ship makers.
Now, nary a day goes by that I do not use one of precision screwdrivers. I used to have two sets, but one of them got misplaced…..so Santa is hooking me up with another set for Christmas.
Think of a toy. Now think of a toy that doesn’t require those tiny little screws. It’s kind of like learning a word in a foreign language, once you learn it you will hear it everywhere. The same thing goes for these tiny screws, once you use precision screwdrivers you will continue to use them at increasing frequency.
I can imagine the other tools make fun of them. The power saws, hammer drills, heck even the pruning shears mock them for their lack of weight, small presence and precise reputation. Much the way that the rogue socks get mocked by the corporate shill socks that remained in the drier, the precision screwdrivers get a bad rap.
They don’t get much respect in the tool world. But I know that they are my go to tools when I need to tighten a toy or remove a battery. Get a second set, you know you need them and place them inside the house. Mike Rowe says it’s OK.
Duct take, can’t forget duct tape. and I think it can be used as a tool.
