Every experienced dad I’ve spoken with has said that after every ‘phase’ of parenting has been their favorite. As a dad I can attest to that because Baby Mojo is leaving the onesy phase and I have loved this phase.
As previously mentioned, aspects of his infant phase, especially at night were great because it had an accompanying Elvis soundtrack in my mind. Part of that vision quest was the timely nature of his diaper calls, combined with the onesys that he was wearing.
Now that Baby Mojo is a toddler and on the cusp of not wearing onesys in the daytime anymore he has a new theme song.
It’s just a coincidence that a classic daytime show is the soundtrack to my daytime diaper changes. One time I was about to change him, he was giddy and excited and I needed a pick me up song. The merciful karaoke gods didn’t implant something with a horrible chorus that was immediately dated. Instead they gave me visions of Bob Barker, crazy costumes and a short-motivating song to change diapers to, that was immediately dated.
From a dad’s perspective, the onesy was a rocking outfit to wear during the day because it made diaper changes super fast. Snap, snap, pick up, tape, snap, snap. Many times after changing his diaper I found myself saying, ‘oh no you di-int’ or waxing poetically about The Adams Family.
Now that he’s wearing pants it adds a whole new layer, literally, to changing the diaper. The fact that he’s wearing clothes, as opposed to jumpers and fat Elvis suits, do make him look like a big boy instead of a baby.
This parent misses the onesy, but realizes that the next phases will be my favorite too. We’re also fast forwarding to the time when he doesn’t have a diaper, but then we won’t have a soundtrack.
