Avengers No More Bullying is a one-shot comic with three different stories by three different superheroes about bullying and good behavior. It stars The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man. The art style in each story is different and consistent with how each hero’s fans know them. The comic succeeds in being entertaining and educational without being preachy or heavy handed. It also presents three all age stories that are appropriate for any age.
The Avengers take on the first story and has a couple points of education. First off, it’s The Avengers as we know them today. The new Captain America, Thor is still the same person, minus the hammer and Superior Iron Man in his new ‘Ultron’ esque looking suit. The team is fighting a giant robot with Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Hawkeye is not getting respect from the other team members. They’re making fun of him and not helping him out when he’s asking for assistance and genuinely needs a hand.
Towards the end of the story the team gets it and start helping Hawk out. However, it’s a simple story that anybody, regardless of age can understand and relate to. It also provides a teaching moment for parents reading to their children to help out their friends when they need it.
The Guardians of the Galaxy story is similar but the subject is a young girl who is being ignored and picked on. She’s sitting by herself, crying and the Guardians talk to her in their own special way. Rocket is smarmy, Star-Lord relates to her and tries to help and Drax is factual. Eventually she sees someone who is complaining about how lonely they are.
They realized that they are friends, which teaches the Guardians a lesson about how to get along also.
Spider-Man brings up the final story and this one is a natural for a child being picked on. Peter Parker was picked on as a teen, so when Spider-Man sees a teen that had been picked on and tied to a lamp post he does something about it.
During a trip across town Spidey tells our teen about how he was bullied and how he embarrassed the kid who was picking on him. Unfortunately even when he did that it didn’t make him feel any better because it was then that he became a bully in his actions.
The two get across town with the youth feeling better and more confident. These are nice stories that have different angles that will teach kids something about being bullied or not being a good friend. There is also a letter at the end of the book that wraps up why the book is important and why people who are being bullied need to tell someone or reach out for help.
Bonus, Avengers No More Bullying is only $1.99. It comes in a variant and standard cover. Pictured in the post is the cover for the variant.
